Nohh...

I'm back at school. Will I stay at school? I don't know... We are being forced to go back to work with a "compromise-contract" which we are supposed to read and vote for or against next week. If we don't agree on it then we just go back on strike!! Hmmm... very, very, VERY strange!

Great!!

Isn't life just wonderful?
Now the negotiating commitees are not going to meet until after 2 weeks!! That means that the strike will last AT LEAST 7 (as in SEVEN) weeks...
I hereby wish that everybody send me happy thoughts... I'm running a little low here since there doesn't seem to be any end to this!

Week 5

Well... this is day 30 of the strike! I have been a busy bee last week and still am! Jon Einar bought a flat last week, a new one, and since he is working I have been looking at all the interior things! Such as in the kitchen, bathroom and bedrooms... And belive me.. it is a lot of work! Since I do have endless time these days, we decided that I could use it on doing this!! So I have stopped sewing -for now!!
As for the strike... Well, there was only a short meeting last Wednesday where they decided to meet yesterday. On that meeting they decided nothing but to meet today! The goverment has still decided to stay out of this although the man who is head of the parlaments "education comitee" has declared that he thinks this has gone on long enough and thinks the strike should be stopped by establishing a "short time law" (straight translation here!) and get all the teachers into the schools again. I agree with him in a way, that is of course the best thing for the children but that also takes the pressure off the negotiating comitees! Which is not good for us teachers. I mean, why sit on long meetings where you are discussing how much more money your community has to spend on paychecks when you have got the teachers back, doing their jobs for the same amount of money as before wether they like it or not!! So... I guess that since we have already been on strike 4 weeks and the 5th one has started, I would prefer that we just stick it out! And the thing is... after such a long time... our main worry is going back to work! The pensum has not been reduced at all!! Now we only have less time to cover it... So.. there are hard times ahead when we do go back to work!
But, still looking at the bright side... If I was teaching I wouldn't have so much time to think about all the things we need to do for our flat!!

Rainy Iceland!

Still not working and am bored stiff... I mean.. I have started to sew!! Comm on... I never sew! As in NEVER EVER!! But.. that's life for you when you are on strike! But... this must lead to something good..
-Right????

Lazy bugger!!

Well... this was just wonderful!! I just heard on the news that my dear "negotiating commitee" is not going to meet the other commitee until Wednesday... at the soonest!! Wonderful!! I am definetly running out of chores here!! I have packed up all my sisters stuff.. gone through my closets and thrown out everything I don't want in there and now I only have about 2 days of going through some boxes which contents I have no clue!! And then I'm done!! So... if anyone wants to come to Reykjavik for a long weekend.. I am definetly free!! At least until Wednesday!!
I am getting so desperate that I have taken up sowing... Now who would have guessed that? No.. didn't think anyone had so.. But.. One has to do something!!
Anyways... Keeping up the good spirit and still trying to look at this as one loooong unpaid holiday!

Strike-watch....

So... what do you do when you are on strike!!
I don't know about all the other teachers in Iceland but I went and had a lovely time in London for a few days with my boyfriend, Jon Einar. We were major tourists and went around looking at many sightings in London such as; the Tower of London, the Aquarium, sailed up and down the Thames, Hampton Court Palace, Britain at war museum and the HMS Belfast.... and many other things!! We managed to do quite a bit of shopping as well and meet up with a bunch of people!! Peter Franklin (summer '02) went with us to Hampton Court Palace.
-Thank you Peter for a lovely day-
Later that night we met Andy, Dean, Tim, Mark, David and Sheri (summer '04) for dinner. That was also very very nice.. I don't think I have laughed so much for a looooong time!! Now.. some of us had more fun than others... Here is an excample of what happens when Tim tells a joke!!

-Thanks you guys for a lovely evening.-
The next day we got up early and went for a spin in the London Eye before meeting up with Sarah, Collin and John (summer '02). We spent the day with them up in Camden at the market... which I must say is HUGE!!! It looks BIG... but it is not... it is HUGE!!! And you can actually get everything there!! -Except for cars.. I didn't see anyone selling cars! But the rest of the universe was there for sale!
In the evening we went out to dinner and then to the theater. We saw Shakespere complete which was very interesting... -to say the least!!
-Thank you Sarah, Collin and John for a brilliant day.-
It was an excellent way to end the trip because the next day we woke up and had to go straight to the airport.

Anyways! When we came back from London I was on mission!! My sister -who lives in France at the moment- had just sold her apartment and we needed to pack all her stuff at once!! So... from Monday to Friday I packed all her belongings into boxes... And belive me.. this is no easy task! She is the MASTER of little brakeable things!!! But this too comes to an end and so now I can 'finally' concentrate on the fact that I am on strike!!
Actually I am going to use this week to go through and throw away some of my own stuff... Since it doesn't look like I am going back to work this week!!

I will keep you posted on how things develope...

Oh.. and look what I tried a few weeks ago!!
